When the weather is too bad to bike & I drive, it can take as long by car as it does pedaling.If I go into DC, I can get from one end of the city to the other as fast or faster than drivers do.My wife used to work in DC & it took her about 2 hours each way for about 20 miles (car & metro combo) one way, so 13 miles isn't bad (as long as it's not 1+ hours in traffic)....Show more

Esteban Faggett: When I worked in DC it used to take me an hour and a half to commute, one way. That was driving to the metro, riding the metro, then walking for another 15 min. So that's 3 hours a day, pretty typical for DC. I knew people who would commute in from W Virginia taking the train for at least 2 hours. I got a lot of reading done. Now I live only 5 min awa! y. I think somewhere around that number is what most Americans would see as an ideal commute, but since the economy is tough right now, people have to go where the money is.
