Can I buy a car on the East coast and sell it in CA?

Mitsuko Manne: Unless you are 100% confident you can resell it for more money, I would not do this. You can find out about titles, registration, all that stuff on the state websites for DMV.This is a lot of work to do something "Cool". Plus, how will you know if the car you buy will have any mechanical issues? At least with a rental car you know its new and reliable. If the car you buy breaks down on the road, it will be like National Lampoon Vacation gone to hell....Show more

Madlyn Fallis: You can do that. You'll get the car titled in PA (where you bought it), drive it to CA, get it titled and registered in your name in CA. Then sell it. You'll have to have a clear title from PA before you can get it titled in CA. If you finance the car, you'll have to get with your lender on this one.I myself would not buy a car that is titled in another state. There would be too many unknowns about the title being clear. That's why I suggest you get it titled in CA....Sho! w more

Estrella Northway: Sure, as long as you have a clear title on the car you buy in PA you and easily sell it in CA, or anywhere else. Happens all the time.
