Can my mother-in-law rightfully take away my H's car if he's the one paying for insurance & maintenance?

Abby Herwood: Yeah, well its hers. But I wouldn't want a car that belongs to a B like that anyways.

Jon Bergmeier: If she owns the car, has papers in her name, of course. IT"S HERS!!!!!But to get out from under her, give the car back and either take public transit or get another car.

Danette Slotnick: Yes, she can. She paid for it, and it's in her name, so it's HER car. If he refuses to turn it over when she asks, there will be legal (read: police) consequences. You make it sound like he's going "above and beyond" his duties by insuring and maintaining this vehicle... That's the LEAST he can do . If you want to solve the problem: 1) give the car back 2) buy it from her 3) buy a different car . If you can't afford to buy a car, then you need to stop thinking like a victim and show some gratitude, or consider riding the bus.As long as he drives a car in her name, she has the power....Show more

Irving Jordahl: If she owns the car, then she can do whateve! r she wants. It's time for him to get his own car. At this point, she's the one doing the driving, and it's time to take away the keys (metaphorically speaking).
