What are some things to take on a 2 or 3 day camping trip?

Adan Stribble: Underwear and lots of water. Thats all you need... oh, and condoms. Be safe!

Robin Weelborg: Cards, M&Ms, water, baby wipes, and a music player. Don't forget a sponge and cooking utensils. Some sort of flashlight that fits on your person, and a lantern. I always bring a raincoat, hat, gloves, extra socks, and a warm parka (which is usually kept in the vehicle). You can just keep adding on and on. This time of year, it can get pretty boring at night as you're fighting off the cold. If it rains where you are, consider a tarp....Show more

Lita Thammorongsa: There are a bunch of stuff that would be helpful if you're camping for a few days:1) Rope to keep food out of the reach of bears. You need to keep the food approximately 4-8 feet in the air that is out of the reach of their paws and claws.2) A good topographical map, and compass or GPS unit that will be able to tell you different whereabouts so that you don't become disoriented or lost.3) A ! good solid tent, one that will protect you from all of the elements that may come. One that doesn't have a lot of different colors that would attact wildlife.4) A good tarp that would be able to protect your tent and you during the elements.5) Also a lot of energy food that would be able to help you on hikes and other events so that you get enough nourishment. Also you should bring some water purification tablets to make sure that you are able to get some purified water,as it is not available in many different areas, and you don't need to get beaver fever.6) Do not camp around large hills that have a tendency to either have landslides or avalanches. Make sure that the place that you choose is well drained, and that wouldn't have a chance of getting flooded during a rain storm, should one strike when you're camping.7) Bring a whistle, so that you're able to attract attention if there should be any problems. Also, bring a cell phone that you could use just in case of emergen! cy. Even if the cell phone is turned on, they are able to loca! te where you are, and if you get lost, you would be able to have some help to you in minutes or hours instead of days.8) Always leave a plan with a reliable person on when you plan on returning, and where you plan on going around. On this plan should be the name of each and everyone in your group, medical conditions that each and everyone of the group has, fitness levels, addresses, contact information if there should be an emergency etc.9) A good sturdy backpack that has clothing, a good strong pair of hiking boots that have a lot of grip for the deteriorating conditions on trails that usually would have snow or heavy rain, a good jacket, a rain jacket, and also a good pair of rain pants as well. 10) Know the fitness ability of each person in your group and work with that.11) With your gear make sure that you wear or have as much woollen stuff, as this will keep your warm even if it gets really wet. Avoid denim as this will get really heavy if wet.Bear or Other Wildlife Sa! fety1) Do NOT run or try hitting the animal. Talk in a nice calm voice and back away slowly keeping the animal in your view at all times, but not necessarily maintaining eye contact.2) Sometimes if you talk very softly, and let you know that you're not a threat they will back way.3) Please do NOT feed any animals that you see, as some of these animals may attract other ones.4) Also DO NOT bring any dogs or other pets that you have, as this may attract other animals.5) Keep all food out of the range of other animals. If you're going to fish, make sure that you clean the fish out in fast moving water, so that it will not be an attractant.6) When hiking, make lots of noise to avoid surprising a bear, or cougar or other wildlife.7) Pack your common sense and USE IT!!!...Show more

Brenton Cornwall: Smart *ss, if it was up to me I'd do away with all the running water, toilets and showers and go to the middle of the forest. But we live in the city, we don't have much extra ! money and this is the closet place we can camp at. By roughing it I mea! n not spending hundreds of dollars on things like air mattresses, neck pillows, satellite internet and comfy chairs with giant cup holders for our super-sized sodas. A lot of the questions I've seen on here are from people who are trying to bring their average home life to the wild regardless of the cost. I'm only asking about the basics....Show more

Jinny Dronen: Well it looks like everyone here has it covered. All, I will say is when I was in the Army, we took basically just water, food, extra clothes, flashlights, sleeping bags, and tents. A great thing for us was baby wipes, we used to clean ourselves with. take a lighter (cigs if you smoke) Something you really should consider is some charcoal for the grill. And some glasses to drink from. (don't forget something with cooking utensils for flipping a burger, or a fork for turning the hotdogs. Since your going for 2 or 3 days there is no sense in breaking the bank, and definatly a towel! No sense in rinsing off! when you can't get dry in this weather. There is no sense in buying firewood if you and your buds can collect it from the wild. Keep your coals hot and you can make your fire a lot easier in the next day or two. (something I prefer to take is but not really needed is an old perculator for my coffee) I can just put that thing on the coals in the morning and the coffee is ready pretty quick. Always nice to start the day off right! Have fun friend, good luck with your trip....Show more

Linwood Mccory: Essentials 1. Cash, credit cards, checks. You have to use it to support your life during the camping trip even you are with food. 2. Waterproof equipments which include a waterproof tent or waterproof matches and butane lighter, rain gear. 3. Required licenses and permits (for camping, hunting, fishing, etc.) 4. Clothes, especially some extra clothing. You can’t be100% sure about the weather, and the temperature between day and night are different. Wear the suitable clo! thes and bring some extra clothing. 5. Daily necessities. It includes f! ood, flashlight, spare batteries and bulb, toilet paper and so on. 6. Basic First Aid Kit. Personal medications roll bandages, adhesive tape, antiseptic wipes, sterile gauze pads, cotton swabs, insect repellence, maps and compass or GPS There are others things you may think useful, but they are not in the Essentials list. Camp chairs Sunglasses Hammock Soap in plastic case/shampoo Tooth brush/tooth paste Deodorant Sheets/blankets Pillow Sleeping bag...Show more

Venetta Coulbourne: All your bathroom accessories, sandals to take into the showers since they're public and you could get a foot fungus if you don't, flashlights with new batteries, compass, jackets, sleeping bag, plastic bags to put food in, knives for emergencies, plenty of blankets (check what the weather will be like in the area you'll be camping at to know just how cold it will get and this will tell you what clothes and shoes you need to bring too), matches, plenty of water, rope, first aid kit fully sup! plied, cell phone (don't forget to have someway to charge it! No good to you if it's dead!), radio, camera and extra batteries! And on a personal note, don't forget medications like Motrin or Benadryl and others to help you guys out in case you get sick or get allergies! And when I use to go camping, I was smart and took not only extra blankets, but also took a mat that would make my sleeping bag more comfortable because waking up off of the cold earth can be a little "aching" sometimes!...Show more

Logan Bero: Cell Phone - Incase of an emergencyLighterFood :)KnifeA gun if your into huntingAnything that you'd want to bring that you think would help you have more fun...Show more

Eleni Mccier: Bug spray! gotta spray out the camping area before you set up...maybe you would waanna bring some wood and an axe to chop it.food but keep it in a cooler. gonna need a lot of beer. Maybe some extra Toilet paper just in case the restrooms run out...a deck of cards.....maybe l! ike a frisbee too ...or a book...

Carter Edstrom: Camping can be ! a fun time for anybody but there are serious things that must be done before doing so. - Make sure you give somebody close to you a list of where you are going along with the license plate number from the vehicle you will be taking and when you will be returning. - Energizer now sells backup battery paks for you cell phones. Leave everybody's cell phone number on the list mentioned above. Also pre-program all local emergency numbers in you phones.- Do research on the area to determine any wild animals that you may come into contact with. Pepper spray may be needed.- Bring a weather radio. They are cheap and can be bought at Wal-Mart.- Bring a change of clothes but leave them in a x-large zip lock bag to keep dry.- Misc items you must not forget are flashlights, extra batteries, a first aid kit, and a map of the area. (i found it to be helpful to go on google earth and zoom in to about 2 miles of the area and print it up. This way I have visible landmarks if you venture off ! the trails.)- Most of all have a good time!...Show more

Dana Russian: well, this is what I would bring...since you will have water there, that is good. Sammie Bocanegra: If it's the typical campsite bathroom, they will have running water and nothing else. You will need soap, toilet paper, a hand towel, and all of your shower stuff if you want to take a shower. You probably need quarters for the shower. You can probably get by for 3 days without a shower - it's up to you.You will need coals for the grill, a reliable source of fire, and firestarter or kindling. You should also bring wood for the campfire. Some campsites sell wood but it is relatively expensive and may run out. Of course you need food, utensils and something to cook it in. You can cook a lot of foods in the fire wrapped in foil. If you want to make eggs or pancakes f! or breakfast (you will want a hot breakfast!) you can buy a cheap pan at the grocery store. If you'd rather not bring any extra stuff for cooking, hot dogs and sausages are real easy to cook on a stick over the campfire. At this time of year you will need sleeping bags. You should have something between your bag and the ground for insulation. When my sister and I were kids we had cheap rolls of foam for this purpose. You can lose a lot of your body heat to the ground and some insulation (cheap foam, really) will keep you warm and comfortable. I know you want to rough it but it is tough to sleep at all if you are cold and miserable.Beyond that, you should bring something fun like playing cards. Don't bring anything that you don't want to get dirty. Everything is going to get muddy and/or smell like smoke, so old t-shirts, old jeans, old shoes, old towels are the way to go.I don't know where you live, but your park may not allow collecting wood for your fire. Check with the pa! rk to make sure. One person suggested that you collect your firewood. M! any parks do not allow this, because if everyone gathered wood then there would be nothing left on the ground for the ecosystem. Part of camping is respecting nature and leaving it the same as when you arrived. I have seen national forests that allow collection of wood, with a permit....Show more

Pattie Vold: go to a camping shop and ask them. they'll give you the best advice, coz its their job

Aron Ramu: sounds like you're already not "roughing it" with your running water, toilets, showers, a grill and a fire pit.Looks like all you're missing is the air mattresses. And the $185,000 recreational vehicles. Oh wait, you don't need those, because it's going to be an "authentic" camping trip :PWhatever you do, leave your food open, so you can get some great bear photos....Show more
