How to convince my mom to let me home-school????!!!!????!!!!?

Ronald Moehr: "Hey I can't deal with life and I would rather get no social experience and learn slower than everyone else!"Yes it sounds harsh, but think about it. You're going to have to get used to ignoring jack asses. You're going to have to get used to standing up for yourself. And really, is your mom a teacher? Can she really teach you calculus and such? How do you plan on getting into university when you're home schooled? (Really, look that up, it requires pages and pages of forms and everything).Just switch public schools if it's that bad. You can't run from life, ****'s gonna happen, and you'll have to deal with it....Show more

Ester Bryand: just tell them

Lynn Melbourne: Pull up homeschool statistics. Did you know that home-schooled students outcompete students in public school on a consistent basis? Look up the winners of the National Science Bees and National Spelling Bees for the past ten years; you'll find that a number of those were won by home-! schooled students. Look up information on different types of home-school curriculum and the cost involved. Time required for home school varies in each state, but where I am, home-schooled students are only required to attend for four hours per day. In addition, they can set their fall, spring, and summer breaks to work around family vacations or other things that are going on. If the evening time is the best time, no problem, you can home school in the evenings, instead of in the mornings because you and your mom decide the best time of day. If you know other students in the area who home school, talk to them or to their parents and ask them about it. In most places, home-schooled students and parents join together to form a group to meet once a month or once every couple months to associate together, talk about literature--what is working good, and other things that come up. If you want her to take you seriously, then you have to do your research and be prepared fo! r any questions or objections she might have BEFORE you approa! ch her. You can get into a university with a home-school diploma. You don't have to take calculus to get into college, but even if you choose to take it, many of the top home-school curriculum choices offer it. Many home-schooled books and software offer upper level high-school classes, as required for college entrance like foreign languages (Spanish, French, and many others, in fact more than is offered in public schools), upper-level math like Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Calculus, Trig, Pre-Cal, English Literature, upper level sciences like Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, etc. (everything you would need to go on to college) Some of the top home-school curriculum choices are: A Beka, Bob Jones University, and Switched on Schoolhouse. All of those offer upper-level courses. Furthermore, Switched on Schoolhouse is completely computerized. You do the lessons on the computer, the computer grades your work, and there is a section where you can type in questions that you ha! ve for your mom when she looks over your progress. The program will allow your mom to delete certain sections if you are having trouble with them so that you can restudy and retake that test. The computer keeps up with your progress and grades, and your mom can print out a report, if you want one. You can join a home-school group that meets for social functions, and you can still socialize with your friends that you have now. Home-schooled students are not even remotely slow; the ones I have known could hold their own with any public school student out there, and surpass a lot of them! As for college, I can three home-schooled students that I know personally, who were home-schooled, and immediately went straight to university after they finished school. They had no problems whatsoever being accepted into a well-respected, top-ranked university or with any of their classes once they started at the university....Show more
