Is an initial public offering an example of a primary or secondary market transaction?

Marielle Hedeiros: Going public essentially allows the founders of a company sell it (get rich) without actually selling the company. Providing the founding group holds on to 51% of the stock they still control all aspects of operation. I wouldn't touch Facebook stock with a 10 foot pole. Facebook, in my opinion, is a fad. Look how fast Facebook made MySpace irrelevant. A new fad could come along tomorrow and Facebook will be toast overnight. Nobody "relies" on Facebook for anything. Companies like Apple, Cisco, Microsoft have tangible products that people and companies rely on to do actual work/generate income, Facebook is just a toy. Facebook was first popular with college age kids. Being the parent of college age kids I can tell you they no longer use Facebook. It's not cool anymore....Show more
