Terresa Tsasie: Tanning beds have been linked to skin cancer. However it is a vey hotly debated issue. Any tan is a sign of skin damage, warn. A tan results from exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays, forcing the skin to produce more melanin, the pigment that darkens skin. This process can lead to aging of the skin and skin cancer. UV radiation includes UVB rays, which penetrate the top layers of skin to cause sunburn, and UVA rays, which penetrate deeper layers of skin to cause allergic reactions. Both types of rays can cause DNA damage that leads to skin cancer. Lamps used in tanning salons emit both types of radiation, Read more: http://www.livestrong.com/article/...Show more
Melvin Nakama: You get a tan from UV rays, sadly UV rays also cause skin cancer. So guess what tanning beds use for tanning? UV lights
Isaias Badgley: yes, tanning of any sort can cause skin cancer. is being dark worth the risk? i was tanning a lot and then found out both of my grandparent! s have skin cancer. so no more tanning for me. not worth it.
Giovanna Cramblit: The tanning bed operator is wrong. UVA rays are long-wave rays and penetrate deep into the dermis causing damage that manifests itself as wrinkles, rough skin etc. That damage can take many years to show. So you might think your skin looks fine now but it isn't. UVB rays cause damage to the epidermis, the outer layers and UVB is what burns skin, and increases skin cancer risk.
Giovanna Sherlin: Yes its the same stuff, UV rays. Actually because it's more concentrated you have a higher chance of skin cancer developing.
Sherri Drakos: Yes!!!
Mel Crapo: Hi John, they will cause skin cancer on certain amount of people, all depends on their immune system, everyone is different. But if i could drop the word "skin", in your question and you were to ask do tanning beds cause cancer, yes its a factor in cancers.Outside tanning the body has to cope with Uv rays, inside tanning the ! body has to cope with Uv rays and a higher frequency (electrom! agnetic pollution). Over a period of time the body wont be able to cope with theses two exposures at the same time and an area of the body will break down, as i said before, it will depend on the immune system of the person to what particular part of the body will be effected first.Hope this helps you with your question...Show more
Percy Seiger: Never use a tanning bed because anything that may cause cancer should be avoided.
Kizzy Hett: The rays don't penetrate deep at all. You may look all toasty tan, but you'll fried if you think you can lay in the sun all day. I tanned for many years and I'm almost 50 with barely a tiny wrinkle and not one age spot from sun damage. I've never met anyone that had skin cancer at a young age. Risk factor, yeah..cause? not until you get the cancer.Actually, beds are 93-99% uva, which are the shhorter, tanning rays, which means they don't go deep like I said. uvb are the long burning rays.I was a certified tanning bed operator.ht! tp://www.vanderbilt.edu/AnS/psychology/health_ps......Show more
