Use odd numbers of the same type of plant....never use even numbers. The key is to make it look "natural" & in nature, odd numbers are more common.Choose what is proper for the zone- things that grow well there. Use plants based on what they need; ie, east, north, west or south exposure. Choose what you like; you're basically making a piece of art when you do landscaping. However, look at what's "naturally or already there" first, like a live oak tre! e, a stream, a brick wall, house or driveway. Then don't put trees around the house that will dwarf the home. The idea is to compliment the home & nature.Use shiny plants next to flat toned plants. But if you put shiny plants on one side of the front of the house, balance the other side with the same plants. Put large bushes behind smaller ones. If planting flowers, the same principle applies. Use the same flowers all the way around, then put smaller ones in front- with bushes or trees in between. Load these onto your computer and play with cropping, effects, black and white, etc. until you are happy with what you created. Save the photo onto a CD and go online and find a place that will blow it up to size for a reasonable price. Check with Walgreen's, CVS, Target and Kmart for comparison pricing. Arrange a "gallery" of your work on any full! walls you may have. I have done this with a hallway and it looks awesome!! I have the frames all touching each other, 3 frames high, all different kinds, but I painted the frames all the same color. I can change them out anytime I want to. It gives me great pleasure to see the faces, stills, animals and think of the time and place I took them. Fill corners with plants and be creative!! I took an old weathered pot ( it was BIG!) and found an old wrought iron "thingy" that I wound fake ivy on. It looks like an expensive topiary! It cost little to nothing with garage sale finds, a little imagination and some moss I glued around the top of the pot. Consider displaying a collection. CDs work great as wall art! Either on shelving placed close together but at different heights, or buy a few CD towers and group them together. Purses (small ones!) also make great wall art. I have a rack with pegs on it (looks like a diamond pattern and can be stretched) out of wood that I hang anti! que purses on. I even had some plexiglass cut to fit across tw! o of them so that I can sit a few purse on the "shelves" I created... Magazines and magazine covers make a nice, mod statement, when framed also...... Stevie Kizziar: Adding soap isn't green, because a lot of the recipes I found said to add Ivory soap...you can get this at wal-mart...and it contains chemicals that are just as bad as store brand laundry detergents. I think I'll just try the borax and washing powder, since that's the recipe in the book.

Coleman Petropoulos: Using it with just borax and washing still works fine, but if you have heavily soiled clothing then you will need to! add a bar of soap to the mixture.You can buy some old fahioned "lye" soap which of course is natural. Your local hardware store should sell it. Most campers use it. Also you can buy a bar of zote which is like a citronella based bar soap used for hand scrubbing by a body of water, so it's no toxic. You local dollar store carries this. You can also buy a bottle of either powdered or liquid "green" laundry detergent and stretch it out for a year buy adding equal parts of the detergent into the batches of laundry soap you plan on making. I'm aware you can make about 20 gallons of liquid soap with just using 1 box of borax and washing soda. Lindsey Zanardi: I use Scrubbing Bubbles Foam, its quick,& convienient, They also have a Toliet Cleaning Gel that comes in a Dispenser you just stamp it on to the inside side of your toilet & it cleans & freshens with each flush, plus it disolves so you never have to handle it, When I shower before I get out I squeegee the tub surround so all the water from my shower doesnt leave water marks or mildew. Shelley Stevens: I just read somewhere that wiping your shower down with a towel after you use it will keep in clean. It will make you have more towels to wash, but it will keep your tub and shower from getting soap build up. Also, tablets in your toilet tank help with keeping the inside clean. I haven't tried this one yet, but I also heard that you can drop two Alka Seltzer tablets into your toilet bowl, let them foam up, then just flush. No scrubbing involved. Not sure if it works, but I've hea! rd good things about it. Something that helps me is just to stay on top of it. A little wipe here and there saves me and hour scrubbing later. Inez Relihan: Shower: I like Kaboom or Easy Off Bam or Comet Spray Gel. Step 1: Spray cleaner on walls of shower, tub and shower door (where applicable) and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Be sure to have a fan going or have a window open. Step 2: Using a sponge with a Scotch Brite pad on one side (green scratchy thing) Wipe down shower starting at the highest point on the walls. Use the Scotch Brite Pad to get off the tough stains. Step 3: Rinse really well from top to bottom and dry walls and tub with an old towel. For the shower doors use a! squeegee.Toilet: I like SoftScrub with bleach. Step 1: Shake! SoftScrub so it's well blended. Squirt around top of toilet bowl. Take toilet brush and smear product around. Let that sit. Step 2: Wipe down the exterior of the toilet from top to bottom with a damp rag or sponge and SoftScrub with bleach. Make sure to get the base of the toilet really well and maybe use an old toothbrush to get the space between the tank and bowl and the base of the toilet and the floor. Rinse sponge or rag and wipe down multiple times until chemical is rinsed off. Step 3: Scrub the inside of the toilet and make sure to get the edge of the toilet bowl really well. Flush, inspect and scrub any missed spots (hopefully none).Sink and Counter top: I use SoftScrub with bleach here as well. Step 1: Squirt product inside sink and sparingly on the counter top. Using a damp sponge or rag, wipe down every surface (includ! ing faucet) paying close attention to the back of the sink and under the faucet.Step 2: Rinse rag or sponge and wipe down surfaces until cleaner is rinsed off thoroughly.Walls: I use the same rag or sponge that I cleaned the sink with and wipe them down from top to bottom-including light switch plates, etc.Floors: 2 products-SoftScurb with bleach and Swiffer Wet Once every 3-4 months I scrub the floor with SoftScrub with bleach and a scrub brush. For every other cleaning I just sweep then use the Swiffer Wet.To prevent myself from spending hours cleaning the bathroom, I try to spot clean while I'm bathing the kids. Scrub the inside of the toilet once a week and 2-3 times a week use a Clorx wipe to wipe down the surfaces in your bathroom. For the bathtub I take a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser in the shower with me and hit some of the spots while I'm showering. This cuts my cleaning time in half when I go for the deep clean once every 2-3 weeks. Just keep Cl! orox wipes in the bathroom and some disenfecting spray around and it wi! ll be really easy. And I think it's impossible to keep a bathroom clean for any significant amount of time, but giving the bathroom a quick wipe with a Clorox wipe will make it stay clean a little bit longer. Remember, bathrooms are for taking care of the dirty part of living-washing and doing "business" so it's going to get dirty rather quickly. Especially if there are kids in the house. Second, gather all the supplies you will be using for the bathroom and keep them IN the bathroom. Glass cleaners, toilet cleaners, tub/sink cleaners, scrubers, sponges - keep them all in a container under your sink (a dish pan can work or there are some nice plastic baskets out there as well). Things always go qui! cker if you have everything you need right at hand.1. SINK: Rinse sink each time it's used. Find one day a week that's good for you to spray it down with cleaner and let it set while you get ready (shower/bathe). When you get out of the shower, give it a real quick swipe to clean it and the faucet. Then dry the faucet and area around the sink. Takes about 1 minute.2. MIRROR: once a week give a quick spray with some window cleaner and wipe off (I keep a roll of paper towels under the sink so I don't have to make special trips anywhere). Takes about 1 minute.3. TOILET: Get a toilet scrubby brush that comes with a container that can hold liquid. Put some toilet bowl cleaner in the bottom of the container. In the am after you use the toilet, flush then give a real quick swipe in bowl and up around rim with the now saturated toilet brush. One day a week spray some cleaner on a paper towel and go over the outside of the bowl. Daily about 30 seconds to a minute. Weekly 1! minute additional.4. TUB: Daily - wipe down the entire shower/stall a! rea of water after you shower/bathe. The moisture in the tub attracts more dirt, in addition to carrying it's own level of dirt (ie the stuff you washed off of you and hard water deposits and the like). Just keep a towel in the bath area for that purpose or use yours after you are done drying off and get a new towel for the next day. Weekly - After you shower, but before you finish getting ready (ie hair dry, dress, and other stuff) dump some of your shampoo on the bottom of the tub (DANGER - this can get very slippery, so make sure to rinse well) and some across the sides, with a damp sponge spread around the bottom and sides but not too much or it dilutes it. After you finish getting ready (best on a day you are not going somewhere that you need to be there at a certain time) go back to the tub with a scrubbie and scrub the tub, you may need to add a little water to help. RINSE WELL. If you use a dry cleanser instead - make sure the tub is wet before you sprinkle it! on, but the best thing is to use something that is already wet. Utilize the dwell time to do half the work for you - it will save you much in the way of time. Daily about 2 minutes to dry down the tub; weekly depends anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes.Doing a little bit on different days means your bathroom is always in a state of clean, LOL.Good luck!...Show more

Kim Gerbino: i think you should clean your bathroom everyday. it takes less then 3-5 minutes, seriously. Just wash the toilet bowl with detergent obviously and a toilet brush. Clean under the toilet seat. that takes less than a minute. then clean the sink are. Again, take a spongy thing or whatever you use and clean the sink counter and the sink bowl. Dry it with a small towel. Less than a minute. Scrub the tub. about a minute. If you do it everyday, it wouldnt take you more than 5 minutes because you're preventing buildup. But if you clean it once in a while, it'll take longer because of also have to get rid ! of the dirty things and mildew and stuff. I hate cleaning the bathroom ! and I used to clean it once or twice a week. I've found that cleaning it everyday is much easier.
